Digging holes can be very simple. Knowing which tool to use — and in this case, which auger attachment to use with your compact track loader — not so much.
Contractors looking to buy a new auger attachment have no shortage of options. The major construction OEMs have their own portfolios of auger drives and bits, in addition to what the specialized attachment manufacturers have to offer.
When determining which model is right for your business, consider a few things:
Soil conditions: if you often encounter rocky or heavy soils on your jobsites, several models below offer specialized configurations for handling those tricky applications.
Drive type: consider whether you'll benefit more from a planetary auger drive (gear reduction for higher torque) or a direct auger drive (hydraulic motor runs to auger shaft for higher speed).
Bit offerings: do you need a multiple bits to handle a variety of soil conditions? If so, consider an OEM that already offers a suite of bits that will fit your business.
Hole usage: it might seem obvious, but consider what your drilled holes will actually be used for. Will you need a certain diameter or depth on a regular basis?

Blue Diamond
Blue Diamond Attachments Extreme Duty Series 2
Blue Diamond Attachments recently rolled out its new Extreme Duty Series 2 Augers, with six models available for skid steers, compact track loaders, excavators, tractors and mini skid steers.
The EX2, EX3, EX4HF, EX5HF EX6HF and EX7HF are designed to deliver maximum torque, efficiency and durability in challenging drilling environments, such as rocky and heavy soils, the company says.
The attachments are constructed with high-grade materials for prolonged life, according to Blue Diamond. Each auger features an Eaton drive motor and comes standard with 2- or 2.5-inch hex shafts.
Depending on the model, the augers deliver a maximum range of 2,630 to 7,189 foot-pounds of torque. The compact, high-torque drive design allows the auger to extend into the hole maximizing drilling depth and productivity, Blue Diamond says.
