Whether you are pushing dirt or trash, ripping or backfilling, Caterpillar says its new 348-horsepower D8 XE dozer can handle it all while using up to 10% less fuel and lowering maintenance costs by up to 5%.
The new model is based on the same platform as Cat’s next-generation D8 released in 2024, with a similar electric-drive powertrain as its D6 XE.
Instead of a conventional torque converter, the D8 XE’s Cat C15 engine drives a fully sealed, liquid-cooled electric generator mounted to the back of the dozer. The energy generated is transferred into the inverter, which conditions and manages that energy and sends it into the electric motor in the propulsion module, which is connected to the final drives.

The D8 debuted at ConExpo 2026 in Las Vegas, where it was decked out in Caterpillar's Centennial Grey to celebrate the company's 100th anniversary.
Inside the D8 XE Dozer
The D8 XE comes equipped with all next-generation upgrades including a more spacious cab with common controls and interfaces, greater all-around visibility, an adjustable air-suspension seat and a 10-inch touchscreen display.
A new heavy-duty weighted single-shank ripper with optional counterweights offers better penetration in hard rock.
The D8 XE also features Cat Assist with Attachment Ready Option (ARO) package and other technology add-ons, including:
Stable Blade: Helps produce a smoother surface in manual operation.
Traction Control: Reduces track slip to minimize wear.
Blade Load Monitor: Uses GPS to provide real-time feedback on blade and machine load, ground conditions and track slip.
Slope Indicate: Informs operators about uphill/downhill grades to optimize slope work.
Steer Assist: Automatically keeps dozing straight.
Blade Recall: Returns the blade back to the desired cut position.
Auto Rip 2.0: Offers two-button control for the ripper. The bottom button lowers the ripper, shakes it forward, controls the torque of the engine, watches for track slip and adjusts accordingly. The top button picks up the ripper, shakes it out and gets it ready for the next pass.
Cat Grade with 3D Ready Option: Provides more flexibility for customers upgrading to Cat Grade with 3D. Cat Grade with 3D uses a GPS signal to adjust blade lift and tilt movements automatically.

More than 3,300 crawler dozers were sold from June 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026, according to Fusable's EDA equipment finance data.

So it's going to be very similar to the X powertrain and the D6. And that we've got the engine generator directly connected to that power goes through an inverter and then down into one motor in the powertrain.

So that motor is tied in to the to the differential steering box. Right. So you've got your input from your motor giving you forward and reverse. And then you've got your differential steering which splits that power up into the left and right track. So differential steering on cap machines we've had it since the mid 80s. Fantastic design gives us the power that we need, precision and control and it's extremely efficient.

So we kept that differential steering design on the on the DACs, similar to what we did with the D6. The rest of the tractor is just D8. You know, it's it's going to be that that regular D8 heritage. So same frames, same blade options, same you know engine most for the most part cooling package, hydraulics. A lot of that's going to be very very similar to the day we went ahead and have the same fluid, same filters, similar intervals.

We do extend a couple intervals for the XC powertrain, but we wanted it to be just as easy to serve us as a regular D8. So one more new thing that we have on here, which we'll talk about a little bit, is going to be our new weighted ripper folks that are getting into some of that really heavy ripping with really hard rock.

They wanted the opportunity to to penetrate a little bit better with this ripper. And so we designed a brand new ripper. It's got these optional counterweights on it. So obviously it's a single shank ripper, optional counterweights. We've got this nice little retrieval hitch on the back as well too. So that's going to be really popular over in the Middle East in those areas where they do a lot of the hard rock gripping with the D8.

So technology wise, the d8 x, just like the regular Da, you know, it's going to be standard in in North America and other HRC countries. It's going to be standard with the assist with RL package. So that's going to have your slope indicate blade load monitor. It's going to have your traction control features which are going to be traction control auto carry.

And again blade low monitor. To get that visual indication to the operator we've got our 2D control features. The first would be slope assist. So helping you to make those flat planes without having a design. And then also steer assist helping to steer and guide that tractor. Keep it going straight when you want it to go straight. So pick that line on your 3D design and when you snap that blade onto that line, it's going to follow that right around there, wherever it needs to go. Of course, full cat grade with 3D on here or 3D ready. This tractor is full cat grade with 3D right out of the factory, so 3d GPS control easily upgradable to using either a laser setup or a UTS universal total station setup.

So full suite of technology on here. A couple of brand new features. Blade recall where we're using that other button on the joystick to to recall that blade to a specific position, I like to call it that return to cut position. All right. So click that button. It's going to set your pitch angle tilt. If you've got an angle blade and drop that blade down and get it right back into that cut again.

And also related to The Ripper, another brand new feature, auto rip 2.0. So basically turns your ripping work into a two button job. So the lower button lowers the ripper down, pulls that shank in forward into that proper ripping position, and then it starts to manage the throttle for you so you don't have to ride the cell pedal.

Then it's going to go ahead and and if you get into a slip situation, it'll either modulate the shank or lift that ripper up and down to help you reduce any of that track slip that you have. So the upper button is going to be your your auto stow. So it's going to lift up shank out and get you ready for the next pass.
