FAE has updated its RPL/SSL road planers for 60- to 135-horsepower skid steers and compact track loaders, packing more functionality into a smaller footprint with new controls and Basic or Plus configurations.
Capable of milling down to a depth of 7 inches, the RPL/SSL is ideal for preparing roads before adding a new layer of asphalt, concrete resurfacing or simplifying excavation operations.
FAE shrank the size of the crank system that operates the movable sides and lowered the entire profile of the machine to improve visibility. Engineers also removed the entire hydraulic system from the SAE frame and integrated directly into the attachment frame to make better use of available space. The new compact layout increases precision and speed when working near walls, manholes and hatches, the company says.
A new side-shift system lets operators position the attachment beyond the tracks, enabling work flush against walls on both sides. Additionally, the dual cutting indicator at the front and rear of the rotor allows for precise, controlled work close to obstacles, such as manholes or curbs.
To ease connection with all major skid steer brands, FAE updated the electrical interface. An internal circuit board and can be connected to the skid steer’s electrical connector via a simple interface cable, without modifying the vehicle’s wiring.
Powered byBecause there are limited physical buttons available on the carrier machine’s joysticks, FAE developed a switch-control management system. It consists of an electronic control unit inside the road planer and an LED-equipped control panel. Visible from the cab, the control panel allows operators to easily identify the active function.
With these new features, the RPL/SSL range now offers two configuration options:
- Basic: Built for everyday work, the Basic model includes a hydraulic motor, hydraulic side shifting functionality, mechanical skid depth adjustment, and tilt management via a mechanical shock absorber.
- Plus: Designed for demanding projects, the Plus version includes hydraulic tilt, hydraulic adjustment of skid depth, hydraulic side shifting, a water spray system, and an SAE attachment frame with integrated water tank.
Two tooth options are available, the Pick R/44/A and the Pick R/44/C, both specifically designed for asphalt and concrete road surfaces.
