Goggle Operators: 3D, VR crane control coming to U.S. with Hiab HiVision (VIDEO)
Hiab plans to bring 3D virtual-reality crane operation to the United States in 2019. Operators don VR goggles and don’t have to leave the truck’s cab, which increases safety and allows comfortable operation in all weather conditions and at night, the company says.
Virtual reality has emerged in the construction industry as a training tool for crane operations, but Hiab is the first to add VR to actual crane operation. The product debuted in April 2016 at the Bauma exhibition in Germany.

The Harley-Davidson F-150 is back for 2019: Custom truck available thru Ford dealers
Harley-Davidson and Tuscany Motor Co. have unveiled an all-new custom 2019 Ford F-150 pickup.
Tuscany, a subsidiary of Fox Factory Inc., is a Ford Motor Company specialty vehicle manufacturer in the personal-use segment. The concept truck will be part of the company’s 115th Anniversary Celebration. It’s available for purchase through Ford dealers, according to harleytruck.com.

Deere updates 310L EP backhoe, 210L/EP tractor loaders with performance boosts, new engines
John Deere has switched to Yanmar engines in two of its under 75-horsepower EP-model machines, while making hydraulic improvements to improve performance.
Launched in 2015 with a 70-horsepower Deere PowerTech E, the updated 310L EP backhoe is now powered by a 69-horsepower Yanmar 3.3L Tier 4 Interim engine. The engine meets Tier 4 emissions without the need for aftertreatment because it is under 75 hp.

Teleskid, JCB’s skid steer/telehandler hybrid, now available in a canopy configuration
A canopy version of JCB‘s Teleskid skid-steer and compact track loaders is now available in North America, the manufacturer has announced.
Unveiled at ConExpo 2017, the compelling machine mashup outfits SSLs and CTLs with a telescoping boom. JCB says the Teleskid loaders are the only machines to combine the advantages of radial and vertical lift in a single machine.

To hear Tim Goodette tell it, the origins of the baddest backhoe on the planet can be traced back to a quaint New England bookstore.
“I’ll stick to this story if anybody challenges it,” laughs Goodette, the program executive officer for U.S. Army combat support and combat service support, while discussing the history of this high-speed military earthmover.
Nearly 20 years later, the 1,000th High-Mobility Engineer Excavator (HMEE) has rolled off the assembly line at JCB’s North American headquarters in Savannah, Georgia. Last week, the facility played host to Army and Georgia state officials to not only formally celebrate the milestone, but the men and women who build it as well.
