Link-Belt has expanded the middle range of its lattice crawler crane lineup with the introduction of the next-gen 200-ton 248|V.
The latest iteration of the 20-year-old 248 platform brings conventional boom lengths from 55 to 282 feet, plus fixed jib lengths from 30 to 100 feet. A 20-foot heavy-duty combo top supports the fixed jib, luffing attachment, 30-ton heavy-duty tip extension, and pile driving leads.
For pile driving and vibratory hammer work, the 248|V offers standard power pack mounting lugs on the upper frame. Also standard are quick-reeve button-style wire rope terminators for easier rigging and faster setup.
The newly engineered 25-foot base section ships with the main load at 90,500 pounds and includes a reeving winch with free spooling, a quick-draw self-assembly cylinder, luffing pinning locations, and bar pendant storage points.

The 48-ton-capacity luffer offers lengths from 85 to 185 feet with offsets from 88 to 65 degrees and can be fitted with an optional tip extension. The luffing jib fan posts are supported by an all-in-one transport pack integrated into the luffing base section for streamlined self-assembly.
An additional improvement to the 248|V’s luffing are the 10-foot extensions and the optional third drum (which are interchangeable with other 248|V machines) for improved precision in demanding applications. With the 10-foot extension and third drum added, the 248|V’s operating weight comes in at 9,100 pounds.
Operators will be working with a swing boundary system for congested job sites, as well as a new hydraulic upper counterweight removal system for faster disassembly and set up.
A key upgrade compared to previous versions is the 248|V’s HSL-2 Load Moment Limiter 12-inch touchscreen display, a telematics-linked tool bringing operators real-time geometrical data like wind speed, list, trim and ground bearing pressure as images and alerts. The HSL-2 also allows gives operators counterweight sensing and step-guided calibrations with advanced diagnostics to improve and speed up decision making on the jobsite.
The 248|V’s HVAC auxiliary power unit runs the machine’s displays, cameras, lighting, radio and climate control separately from the engine, a feature Link-Belt says came from customer demand. This means contractors see less fuel consumption and less hours put on the Cummins QSB6.7 Tier 4 Final engine, which offers multi-function performance for operating the swing, rear, front, third drum, and boom hoist winch.
Other upgrades to the 248|V include the LED-reduced glare lighting and fall arrest anchors and wide steps for improved accessibility.
