The North Carolina Board of Transportation has approved 24 safety enhancement projects in 16 counties valued at $2.6 million.
The projects aim to improve pedestrian access in addition to enhancing safety, and include work along state roads, sidewalks and pathways. They include:
- Construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Baywood Road and Murphy Road in the Town of Eastover in Cumberland County
- Pedestrian improvements to Cloverdale Avenue and Miller Street in Winston-Salem
- Installation of a multi-use path along Sloop Point Road and Country Club Road in Pender County
- Drainage improvements on North Main Street (U.S. 29) between Henderson Street and Steel Street in Salisbury
- Installation of pedestrian signals and median modifications, which will provide a pedestrian refuge at Slope Street and U.S. 19 in Bryson City in Swain County
- Drainage improvements to West Palmer Street in the Town of Franklin in Macon County
- Construction of sidewalks along state roads in Hertford, Martin and Madison counties
- Traffic signal improvements to roads in Haywood, Henderson, Jackson and Swain counties
- Ditch, culvert and roadside improvements in Macon, Northampton, New Hanover, Sampson, Cumberland and Union counties
