Quick Data is Equipment World’s monthly analysis of new and used financed construction equipment sales trends, pricing data and auction sales activity by product category. The reports use Fusable’s proprietary EDA and EquipmentWatch market data. EDA and EquipmentWatch are owned by Fusable, parent company of Equipment World.
New financed mini excavator sales in the U.S. fell year over year, while sales of used machines grew.
The results suggest that buyer demand remains high, but the affordability of new machines is driving more contractors toward depreciated used models or rental.
More than 32,500 new financed mini excavators were sold from June 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026, according to Fusable’s latest EDA equipment finance data, a 7.7% decrease from the same period last year. Mini excavators are the second-highest selling product, behind compact track loaders, accounting for 21.5% of all new financed sales.
Caterpillar narrowly overtook Kubota as the top-seller of new financed mini excavators during the period, with 23.3% of new financed sales, or 7,588 units. Second-place Kubota sold 7,270 units for 22.4% market share, and Bobcat held onto its third-place position year-over-year with 17.1% share, or 5,572 units.

Texas buyers snapped up more financed used mini excavators than those in any other state, with 824 units, or 6.5% of sales. Tennessee came in second with 668 units, or 5.3%, and North Carolina rounded out the top three with 599 units, or 4.7%.
EDA data is compiled from state UCC-1 filings on financed construction equipment. EDA continually updates this data as information comes in from each state. Depending on the type of machine, financed machines can represent 40 to 75 percent of the total number of machines of that type sold in the United States. EDA does not track machines bought by cash or letter of credit.
EquipmentWatchUsed Mini Excavator Price & Age Trends
Contractors looking for the best deal on used mini excavators should start researching machines now and consider timing a purchase for the fourth quarter when prices historically tend to drop, according to Fusable’s EquipmentWatch market data. Prices on used mini excavators generally increase in the first quarter ahead of the busy season in certain regional markets.
Used mini excavator prices have remained relatively flat over the past year, fluctuating in within $46,000 to $47,000 range from June 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026. The average age of used mini excavators increased slightly during the period from 4.8 to 5.7 years. The average age and price were calculated using 264,724 resale listings during the period in the EquipmentWatch database.
EquipmentWatch defines fair market value (FMV) as the monetary value of an asset that can be expected in a transaction with a single seller and single buyer, neither of whom is under any compulsion or time restriction to complete the transaction. FMV for heavy equipment is most closely associated with the private resale market, as opposed to the public auction market.
MecalacMini Excavator Auction Prices
Looking at the top 20 mini excavators sold between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026, in terms of auction price, Caterpillar controlled the rankings, claiming 15 of the top 20 price spots. Mecalac, recently purchased by the France-based Fayat Group, picked up three spots with its 6MCR crawler-skid excavator, a unique machine that combines a compact excavator with a compact track loader. Bobcat and Deere each nabbed one spot on the list.
According to the EquipmentWatch auction price guide, two machines sold by Ritchie Bros. tied for the top auction price paid for a mini excavator during the period:
A 2023 Mecalac 6MCR with 91 hours sold for $91,000 in Mead, Colorado, on October 3, 2025.
A 2024 Cat 306 CR with 196 hours also sold for $91,000 in Newnan, Georgia, on May 28, 2026.
