Polaris is expanding the capability of its 2027 Ranger UTV lineup with new models and upgraded components designed to enhance ride comfort, performance and handling from the jobsite to the trails.

Model revisions include the all-new Ranger XP 1000 Mud Edition, the upgraded Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar Trail Boss Edition, the reclassified Ranger 600 and returning electric Ranger Kinetic.

Here’s a look at the biggest changes coming to the lineup:

Ranger XP 1000 Mud Edition

New for the 2027 model year is the 82-horsepower Ranger XP 1000 Mud Edition. Like the Ranger XP 1000 Premium platform it's built on, it features a restyled front end, factory-installed roof, easy-shifting transmission, power steering and 1,000-cc engine. (Shown at the top of this article.)

Additional features unique to the Mud addition:

  • Exclusive Mud Edition color scheme, including a painted red hood and snorkel fenders, black sides and Mud decals on the front and rear.
  • Arched A-Arms on the front and rear to allow for more ground clearance on difficult terrain.
  • 29-inch Pro Armor Mud XC tires with 14 inches of ground clearance and chunky treads designed to shed mud.
  • A custom bumper with a high-mounted 4,500-pound winch with a synthetic rope, auto-stop and a wireless remote.
  • A high-mounted engine air intake and clutch inlet and outlet to prevent water from being pulled into the UTV while traversing shallow waterways.

The Ranger XP 1000 Mud Edition has a 1,000-pound box capacity and a 2,500-pound towing capacity.

The upgraded Trail Boss Edition, based on the Ranger XP 1000 NorthStar Ultimate platform, features a fully loaded cab with a slew of standard features including doors, a roof, a front windshield and rear panel, 7-inch display with Ride Command technology, JBL audio system, a front bumper, LED headlights and a 4,500-pound winch.

A blacked-out paint scheme with red accents, topography-inspired graphics and premium embroidered seats is unique to the Trail Boss model.

Two drive modes are available: turf two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The second-generation shifter provides smooth gear changes. Work, standard and performance throttle modes allow drivers to fine tune the UTV to conditions. A built-in rear light illuminates the cargo box during early mornings or late nights.

Additional new upgrades include:

  • Arched A-Arms with a Walker Evans Racing piggyback shock, allowing riders to adjust the softness or firmness of the shocks based on the vehicle capacity and trail conditions.
  • A needle shock borrowed from the RZR platform, designed to prevent harsh bottom-outs.

Based on feedback from riders, Polaris has removed active descent control and the self-leveling rear suspension from the 2027 model year Trail Boss.

“When you think about this Ranger, it’s got a ton of trail-centric things that are going to make it the Trail Boss, but it also carries all the trademark Ranger features that make it a great vehicle for doing work — a huge cargo box, a 2-inch receiver on the back so you can hook up and tow and carry stuff around,” said Pat McArdle, Polaris engineer and host of Polaris Shop Talk.

Polaris has reclassified the Ranger SP 570 as the Ranger 600 for the 2027 model year.

While the engine performance has not changed, the UTV has been upgraded with the easy-shifting next-generation transmission. “It’s effortless to move this around,” McArdle says. “You have about 50% reduction in shift effort, so you hit the right gear every time.”

An enhanced electronic power steering system makes turning and returning to center easier.

The display has been upgraded to a four-color model for a more modern look and consistency with higher-end models in the Ranger portfolio. The Ranger 600 is also available in a NorthStar edition with an enclosed heated cab.

It has a 500-pound box capacity and a 1,500-pound towing capacity.

Ranger KineticPolarisRanger XP Kinetic

Polaris’ all-electric model, the Ranger Kinetic, returns to the lineup after a brief hiatus, due to high demand and customer requests.

It will only be available in the Ultimate trim level with a 29.8-kWh dual-battery pack configuration for a maximum range of up to 80 miles, as well as an upgraded electrical system.

The revived model will also receive the front-end updates that came to the full Ranger lineup a few years ago, including LED headlights with a charge-indicating center accent light, a full-body skid plate and full-coverage front bumper with a winch and integrated winch and plow mounts.

It has a 1,250-pound box capacity and a 2,500-pound towing capacity.

The Ranger Kinetic is available in Heavy Metal or Camo color schemes.
