Cat has introduced a new lineup of side discharge buckets for its skid-steer, compact track, multi-terrain and compact wheel loaders.
The four new buckets, which are designed to gather, transport and discharge sawdust, sand, mulch and topsoil, are available in widths of either 74 or 86 inches, holding between 1 and 2.33 cubic yards of material.
The buckets discharge material using three main design elements: the agitator, conveyor belt and adjustable discharge doors.
The agitator, powered by a dedicated high-torque hydraulic motor, reduces material bridging in the bucket and keeps the flow of material to the conveyor belt consistent. The agitator assembly’s paddles are available in Sand and Sawdust configurations, thus the differences in the model names in the spec listings below. The Sand paddle design is straight to exert added force to push through dense material. The Sawdust type uses prongs to assist in breaking up material and reducing weight on the conveyor.
A rubber conveyor belt on these buckets features a heavy duty raised chevron tread design and an adjustable tensioning device. The unit is powered by two reversible hydraulic motors. Openings in the bucket floor allow any remaining material in the bucket to escape, preventing material build-up beneath the conveyor belt. The Sand models of the buckets feature an internal baffle to reduce strain on the belt.
Regulating the volume of material being discharged are the adjustable discharge doors on each side of the bucket. Cat says the doors are built with thick-plate steel for reinforced durability.
An added safety feature on these buckets is a welded, serrated step that assists with entering and exiting the cab of the machine its being used on.
