ExtremeSnow&IceStories_v2During the rough winter weather storms caused by the polar vortex the week after the New Year holiday, snow and ice caused cars to slide off the road, semis to get stuck and some interstates to shut down for hours.

According to a News-13 WTHR.com report, the roads were particularly difficult for large trucks because they were stuck on inclines that were just a sheet of ice.

Police and Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) crews had to shovel under truck tires to help them gain traction.

Working in extreme winter conditions have become second nature for Indiana crews. Now, Indiana power crews from Central Indiana are heading to help out the southern states after a powerful winter storm moving across the South and all the way up the East coast has left more than half a million homes and businesses without power, according to another report from WTHR.com.
