Two companies have teamed up to roll out a new all-electric compact tractor that can be charged by simply parking it in the sun.
The Moonrider 27, co-developed by Cincinnati-based solar-product manufacturer GoSun and India-based tractor brand Moonrider, can come equipped with a 1,100-watt solar canopy built into its roof for a free stationary charge or additional runtime boost while operating.
The 2,400-pound tractor can run for approximately 5 hours on a full charge, depending on the load and intensity of the work. For faster charging, it can be plugged into a 220-volt AC outlet. When plugged in, the lithium iron phosphate battery will go from 0 to 80% battery life in about 2.5 hours.
The Moonrider 27 will come equipped with a 27-horsepower electric motor, four-wheel drive and a standard rear PTO with three-point hitch. Buyers can use the implements they already own, like mowers, tillers, blades, spreaders and trailers. It has a lift capacity of 1,650 pounds.
Interested buyers can reserve their spot for the first production run of the Moonrider 27 for $50. The deposit is fully refundable anytime before your build is finalized, the company says. The first units are expected to ship in 2027. The total cost is $19,995 for the tractor and 220-volt charger.
