John Deere unveiled its new 5E 3-Cylinder tractors, the first models to offer its electronically controlled eHydro transmission in a utility tractor.
Ranging from 50 to 100 horsepower, the 5E Series models can be configured to meet the needs of the operation. Six John Deere PowerTech engine options are available. The models do not require DEF or a DPF. The automatic regen keeps operators working without interruptions, the company says.
Models and options — including an open station, standard cab, or premium cab options, and SyncShuttle, PowrReverser or eHydro transmissions — are outlined in this chart from Deere:
John Deere
"The new 5E 3-Cylinder tractor was designed to make any job intuitive, whether you're a seasoned operator or just stepping into the driver's seat for the first time," said Mark Davey, go-to-market manager for the 5 Series tractor lineup at John Deere. "By reducing the learning curve, our customers are able to get to work faster and operate with greater confidence and efficiency."
eHydro Transmission
The eHydro transmission, available on the 5060E, 5067E and 5075E, contains several features designed to simplify operation and improve efficiency, including:
- TwinTouch pedals for simplified and more comfortable forward and reverse control.
- Automotive-style cruise control for consistent speed regardless of terrain.
- SpeedMatch to maintain the desired maximum travel speed.
- LoadMatch to prevent the tractor from stalling during heavy load applications.
- MotionMatch to adjust acceleration and deceleration response.
- Speed governance to ensure controlled operation and safety across operators.
"The eHydro transmission brings together a suite of smart features, making the tractor more intuitive and efficient, allowing for increased productivity and reduced operator fatigue," Davey said.
Cab Options
The new 5E 3-Cylinder tractors are built for durability, comfort and ease of operation, Deere says. Three cab options are available:
- Open operator station: Offers more legroom, durable seat, easy to reach controls and halogen lights.
- Standard cab: The climate-controlled cab is isolated from the tractor to reduce noise and vibration. It also includes LED headlights, a back window that opens 70 degrees, an optional swiveling air-suspension seat, and an improved fuel tank placement for better visibility.
- Premium cab: Features a swiveling air-suspension seat for better visibility and comfort during loader or rear-implement work, a sunroof with sunshade for added visibility above the roofline and LED lighting.
Additional updates include:
- Go-home lighting — extended external lighting for safer exit in low-light conditions.
- Improved electrical connections — reduces contamination in wiring connections and harnesses.
- New, smaller steering wheel for improved comfort.
All 5E models come standard with a Category 2 rear hitch and feature an independent PTO that allows for separate control of both the tractor and PTO. Two rear SCVs in base and an optional third rear SCV lets operators attach larger loaders and implements for high production jobs. The three-point hitch makes tilling and rotary cutting easy.
