Construction Worker in Trench

A construction worker was rescued earlier this week after being trapped for two hours in a collapsed trench in Morris, Illinois.

The 49-year-old man was working on a sewer installation project in a 7.5-foot-deep trench Monday when one of the trench walls collapsed, according to news reports.

The worker was reportedly conscious and alert throughout the rescue, police told Joliet Patch.

He was airlifted to a trauma center where he was in stable condition.

Rescue workers first had to shore the trench before removing the victim.
