Trimble says the purchase of the Portland, Oregon-based firm will complement its e-Builder business and extend its ability to “provide more complete and integrated project, jobsite and business workflows across the construction lifecycle.”
Viewpoint’s software helps with planning a construction project, as well as the project’s operations, supply chain management, and asset operation and management. The software can deliver information to the entire project team of general contractors, project managers, architects, engineers and subcontractors, Trimble says.
“By blending office and field data workflows across a project, Viewpoint customers are able to achieve significantly improved collaboration, efficiency and decision making, while lowering costs,” Trimble says.
The purchase follows Trimble’s acquisition of e-Builder, an SaaS-based construction program management solution for capital program owners and program management firms. “Viewpoint will further extend these capabilities with focus on general, specialty and heavy civil contractors, and link project data into the owner-facing e-Builder suite for end-to-end project transparency,” Trimble says.
The Viewpoint transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2018, pending regulatory approvals.

Trimble also acquired Stabiplan B.V., a Netherlands-based software company serving the mechanical, electrical and plumbing industries in Europe, in January. Stabiplan produces 3D computer-aided design and engineering software and building information modeling. Its products for Revit and AutoCAD integrate design, drawing and engineering calculation and analysis, supporting workflows from engineering to construction, the company says. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
