Caterpiller virtual reality simulatorCaterpillar has added to its virtual reality training products with the Cat Simulators Advanced Dozer System.

The simulator teaches advanced dozer skills in a highway construction setting and includes vibration and movement to give the user a realistic experience.

The system, created with software developer Simformotion, has a three-monitor setup facing the operator and a back monitor. Its motion system gives a realistic feel of the terrain, the company says.

The system’s VR Now technology delivers greater depth perception, enabling the operator to become immersed in the exercises. Exercises include control familiarization, how to perform a walkaround inspection, site clearance with trees and boulders, pad building, road construction, ditch building and slope/ramp building.

Integrated Grade Control teaches the user to follow and match a design profile throughout the exercises. An Open Training mode in each exercise offers additional practice.

The simulator also comes with SimU Campus Training Records Management software, which measures, records and reports the results of all simulation sessions. The software includes hundreds of benchmarks based on Caterpillar data. The trainee’s performance can be measured against the benchmarks and outcomes recorded to a database.
