Caterpillar has introduced a purpose-designed compact track loader for land management with high power and a ruggedized exterior.

The new 299D2 XHP Land Management compact track loader is powered by a Cat C3.8 engine delivering 110 gross horsepower. The high-flow/high-pressure auxiliary hydraulic system can power high-production, hydro-mechanical attachments like mulching heads and industrial brush cutters with 40 gallons per minute of flow at 4,061 psi.

Operating weight is 12,752 pounds. Tipping load is 12,429 pounds. Rated operating capacity is 4,350 pounds, while rated operating capacity at 50 percent of tipping is 6,214 pounds.

Cat says the 299D2 XHP Land Management CTL uses a torsion-axle-type undercarriage-suspension system that allows for independent vertical movement between the frame and undercarriage. The system provides a smoother ride and more operator comfort by absorbing shock and vibrations, and distributing loads in uneventful terrain. Ground pressure is 5.9 psi.

The exterior of the machine is factory-equipped with seal and cover components that restrict debris and other material from entering the engine compartment and lower frame. Material discharged by rotating attachments are channeled away from the front of the cab by a debris deflector.

Adding more protection to certain engine and emissions components are more special parts and covers that prevent debris from collecting on those components.

Large-frame access panels provide easy access cleaning and a turbine-type pre-cleaner ejects dust, dirt and debris from engine-intake airflow before it reaches the filter, Cat says.

The front and rear LED work lights, work-tool coupler area, work-tool electrical harness connections and the auxiliary-hydraulic quick-disconnect fittings are also protected from impact and debris.

Inside the one-piece, pressurized and sealed cab, operators will find a heated, air-suspension seat with adjustable armrest/joystick control positions.

A full-color, 5-inch screen displays machine operating information and performance adjustments as well as the view from the rear camera. The screen also allows operators to adjust the following:

  • Implement response
  • Hydrostatic-drive response
  • Creep control speed
  • Ride-control activation speed
  • Gauge layout
