Deere’s Tier 4 Ratings
John Deere Power Systems (JDPS) introduced its generator drive prime power Interim Tier 4 power ratings for diesel engines above 130 kW (174 hp) at POWER-GEN International in December in Las Vegas. Interim Tier 4 emissions regulations, which begin in 2011, apply to 130 kW (174 hp) and above diesel engines used in prime power applications, and require a 90 percent reduction in diesel particulates and a 50 percent reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) from previous Tier 3 requirements. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency only requires that emergency stationary gen-set engines meet Tier 3 emissions regulations.
Quikrete recycles in new mix and patch
QUIKRETE has introduced QUIKRETE Green Concrete Mix and QUIKRETE Cold Asphalt Patch, both of which use recycled materials. The Green Concrete Mix, composed of a blended concrete mix containing 50 percent recycled materials — including recycled aggregates, fly ash and/or slag cements — and qualifies for points within the Recycled Content and Regional Material classifications as defined through the LEED Green Building certification. The Cold Asphalt Patch uses 90 graded recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) that is rejuvenated with a binding agent.
Front-mounted snowblowers for compact Bobcat tractors
Two new models of front-mounted snowblower implements are now available for Bobcat compact tractor models CT120 to CT235, with a third model for the CT225 to CT450 available at a later date, which has not been disclosed. To operate a front-mounted snowblower, the tractor must be equipped with a mid-PTO, loader joystick and control valve. The snowblower requires a lift kit and PTO kit to mount to the tractor. The front-end loader, tractor grille guard or front weight kit, if present, need to be removed to use a front-mounted snowblower. However, loader mounts do not have to be removed from the tractor. The snowblower and lift kit are fastened together by two quick-release pins, so the snowblower can be attached to or removed from the tractor in minutes.
The three models of snowblower implements are the following:
Model FCTSB49 — approved for use on the CT120 to CT235 and features a 49-inch cutting width. Model FCTSB62 — approved for use on the CT120 to CT235 and features a 62-inch cutting width. Model FCTSB72 — approved for use on the CT225 to CT450 and features a 72-inch cutting width. The model will be available at a later date.

High output, twin-shaft mixers from Liebherr
Liebherr twin-shaft mixers are suitable for high outputs of pre-mixed concrete and available in sizes of 3- to 8-cubic yards, and particularly advantageous if used in mobile mixing plants and for construction sites with limited space. The mixing equipment can, depending on size, process aggregates up to 7 inches without difficulty, especially important for mass concreting projects such as dams, roads or bridges or other larger RCC pours, which require high quality mixed concrete.
HCSS’s “Equipment 360” is here
The new Equipment360 Equipment Maintenance Software program from HCSS (www.hcss.com/Products/Equipment360/) tracks equipment maintenance schedules for trucks, bulldozers, scrapers and other company equipment and has performance that identifies unreliable equipment that should be sold. Provided are an itemized cost history for each piece of equipment and a work order management system that provides a framework for capturing labor and parts costs. Mechanics enter their time directly into the system, which avoids errors and double entry; mechanic timecards can be reviewed and approved before they’re exported electronically to the company’s accounting system.
New pro mowers: zero-turn and 12 mph
Husqvarna’s latest professional series of zero-turn mowers, the PZ Series, standard Hydro drive system uses 16cc Hydro-Gear fan-cooled pumps and Parker wheel motors to achieve ground speeds up to 12 mph. The combination of oversized pumps, cooling fans and large 1.5-gallon reservoir reduces heat. A new two-speed version featuring Hydro-Gear ZT5400 integrated commercial transmissions will be available in early 2010 and will allow for 30 percent or more higher transport speeds to further increase productivity.

Columbia Steel is positioned to supply slab-busting wear parts for nearly 70 different crusher makes and models. Their jaws are available in standard manganese steel alloy and in Xtralloy premium maganese. Slab breaker jaws are based on traditional and high-tooth jaw designs but with additional raised slab breakers in pitch with conventionally located teeth. The number of slab breakers is proportional to the width of the crusher’s size and model, allowing the operator to set the discharge for a reasonable opening and still break slabs that otherwise would flow through the crusher.
