Nikki Haley, governor of South Carolina; and Dwayne Perry, Fairfield County councilperson)Bomag representatives, along with state and local officials, on Wednesday held a groundbreaking ceremony at site, which is the future site of its new North American headquarters.
Bomag Americas President Walter Link said the move, which locates the manufacturer within 30 miles from Columbia and 70 miles of Charlotte, North Carolina, will improve the company’s services.
“We believe this area offers our company several strategic benefits, such as: close to port of entry, proximity to an air hub for spare parts fulfillment and a climate conducive to offering year-round sales and service training for our customers,” Link said.
The 127,600-square-foot facility will feature a 107,100-square-foot parts warehousing and machine assembly area and 20,500 square feet of office space.
The $18.2 million facility is expected to create 121 new jobs.
The groundbreaking follows Bomag’s 2013 purchase of CMI and Cedarapids.
The company says it plans to begin construction in March and anticipates the new headquarters will be completed in October 2014, when it will begin relocating its current Kewanee operations to the new site.
