This interactive map is available at http://www.ncdot.gov/strategictransportationinvestments/2018-2027.html.The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) opens the public comment period on its 10-year, 2018-2027 State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) June 20 and will hold a series of informal public meetings in its 14 local transportation divisions during the month-long period.
The list of proposed projects is available here. NCDOT used the funding formula in the Strategic Transportation Investments Law, passed in 2013, in developing the STIP. The formula was first used to develop the 2016-2025 STIP approved last June. It resulted in 300 more projects being funded than would have been allowed under the old funding formula, the agency says.
Projects receiving preliminary scores for 2018-2027 STIP include projects listed in the last five years of the 2016-2025 STIP, projects submitted as part of the 2016-2025 STIP that were not funded and new projects local planning organizations and NCDOT submitted in the fall of 2015.
“Releasing all project scores together helps local planning organizations and local NCDOT divisions make decisions on how to rank projects at the regional and division levels,” the department says. “Projects that did not score high enough to be funded in the statewide category can be considered and potentially funded at either the regional or division category. Projects in these categories are scored and ranked based on data as well as local input.”
