ARTBA’s TransOvation workshop to focus on impacts of driverless cars, new technologies

TransOvation LogoThe American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) will host the Dr. J. Don Brock TransOvation Workshop at the San Jose Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose, California, October 28-30.

The workshop, themed “Where Technology Meets the Road,” will feature speakers and workshop leaders from IBM, Microsoft and the Automobile Manufacturers Alliance, as well as public and private sector transportation construction professionals, who will discuss the impacts of driverless cars and new technologies on the design and construction of highways and bridges.

Attendees can participate in interactive workshops, where they will identify the challenges driverless technology poses before they work in groups to create blueprints to work toward solutions.

Attendees will have the opportunity to earn PDH credits for taking part in the workshop.

Among the speakers at the third annual TransOvation are:

  • Phaedra Boinodiris, producer of IBM’s INNOV8 series of serious games

  • Mitch Bainwol, president & CEO of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers

  • Ross Smith, head of software testing at Microsoft

  • Bryant Walker Smith, fellow at the Center for Automotive Research at Stanford and the Center for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School

  • Ted Zoli, bridge engineer and a vice president at HNTB

  • John Hillman, president & CEO of HC Bridge Company

  • Dr. Raymond Chiu, 20-year veteran of 3M Corporation and MIT graduate

  • James P. Pinkerton, contributor to Fox News and author of “What Comes Next: The End of Big Government & the New Paradigm Ahead”

ARTBA will present the TransOvation Awards at a special event on October 28.
