The depleting Highway Trust Fund (HTF) may cause the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)  to delay reimbursements to state agencies this year.

Bloomberg reports that the U.S. DOT may have to slow the payments to avoid draining the HTF.

Peter Rogoff, the DOT’s acting undersecretary for policy, said at an American Trucking Association (ATA) meeting Tuesday that the funding provided in MAP-21 isn’t enough.

“Based on the numbers we’re seeing coming out of the Treasury Department each month, we won’t make it,” Rogoff said.

The DOT expects Obama to offer solutions for transportation infrastructure funding during his State of the Union address Tuesday night.
