Workers engaged in cleanup and reconstruction in the wake of Hurricane Sandy should be particularly aware of the hazards associated with recovery work.
To aid those involved in the cleanup effort, OSHA has compiled a comprehensive webpage with resources that address common hazards these workers will encounter such as downed electrical wires, carbon monoxide and electrical hazards from portable generators, fall and struck-by hazards from working at heights and more.
The webpage includes fact sheets, OSHA QuickCards, safety guides and more, and is also available in Spanish. Some resources are also available in Portuguese.
Additional information on post-disaster safety is available on the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences’ website.
