gunpointA construction worker and father of two was tragically shot and killed on the job Sunday night in Chicago’s Englewood community.

According to a report from the Chicago Sun Times, Miguel Haro, 44, was part of a crew working to rehab a home. He was working with one other man “when two robbers walked up and ordered them to kneel.”

The other man complied and gave the robbers his cell phone and money. The attackers struck the man with a gun before demanding Haro hand over his belongings as well.

Haro refused. The robbers shot him in the head, killing him, and then fled the scene.

ABC 7 Chicago spoke with Haro’s wife, Alejandra, who told the station that her husband had taken the job as extra work to pay for his daughter’s Christmas present. “He promised to get her a tablet for Christmas, no matter what,” she told the station through a translator.

Police are still searching for suspects in the case.
