2014 Toyota Tundra Towing Capacity

Tundra owners will find the 2014 models a little nicer inside, with more behind-the-seat cargo capacity, more electronic options, and a couple upscale trim packages.
What hasn’t changed with Toyota’s third generation full-size is it’s trailer towing capacity or towing equipment required to be “properly equipped” to pull the max trailer loads.

For example, according to the 2013/2014 Toyota Tundra owner’s manual, all models are still required to have a weight-distributing hitch when towing trailers that have a loaded weight of more than 5,000 pounds.
“If the gross trailer weight is over 5000 lb. (2268 kg), a weight distributing hitch with sufficient capacity is required,” says the owner’s manual under “Weight Limits” on page 276.
The owner’s manual also says Tundras towing trailers that weigh more than 2,0oo pounds requires the use of a “sway control” device.
Towing without the proper trailering equipment places the driver in a serious liability situation should an accident occur and serious injuries (or worse) happen.
That’s because Toyota specifies these aftermarket add-ons are required, not just recommended. Other full-size pickup manufacturers have similar towing requirements.
