Video: How to Reduce Construction’s High Rate of Suicide | The Dirt #50

Updated Apr 5, 2022

The suicide rate in the construction industry is more than four times higher than for the general population. Yet it’s a topic that is rarely discussed.

In this episode of The Dirt, we address the suicide problem in the hopes that construction companies can begin to come up with some solutions, such as relieving stress and pressure on frontline workers.

Host Bryan Furnace calls on construction company leaders to make one change in the new year to help struggling workers and offers some suggestions of what that could be. Posting or handing out information from the OSHA or CDC websites doesn’t count.

For those who are struggling, one available resource is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or suicidepreventionlifeline.org.
