Shell has taken part in two new global collaborations—one with Volvo Trucks and one with Mack Trucks—to encourage the use of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as a fuel for commercial vehicles.
The two non-exclusive agreements with Shell will include collaboration on issues such as fuel specification and emissions performance.
Volvo’s LNG offerings include its 13-liter LNG engine for North America and its natural gas-powered option for the Volvo VNM daycab. Volvo will also offer a natural gas-powered version of the Volvo VNL daycab in 2013.
Mack’s LNG offerings include its natural gas-powered Mack TerraPro refuse vehicle and its natural gas-powered Mack Pinnacle. Mack plans to launch a natural gas-powered Mack Granite for the construction segment in 2013.
