Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) said Monday that his panel would move quickly to hold a confirmation hearing on President Obama’s nomination of Anthony Foxx as the next Secretary of Transportation, The Hill reported.

Though Rockefeller pushed for National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Deborah Hersman as the nominee for transportation secretary, he praised Foxx, saying the Charlotte, North Carolina, mayor “has established himself as a strong transportation advocate and shown the ability to move transportation infrastructure projects in Charlotte.”

While presenting his nomination on Monday, Obama said, “I hope the Senate confirms him quickly because we’ve got a lot of work to do.”
