Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Sec. Mike Hancock has stepped down from his position this week and will be replaced by Deputy Sec. Greg Thomas.
According to the Lexington Herald Leader, there was no reason given for Hancock’s departure. Hancock had been secretary since being appointed in 2010 by former Gov. Steve Beshear.
Gov. Matt Bevin wasted no time in appointing Thomas as the new secretary of the department. Thomas took over as deputy secretary in February after a career in the electric distribution industry.
Thomas last worked as the vice president of electric distribution for LG&E and KU Energy LLC in Louisville, Kentucky. Previously he was a technically engineer, director of distribution operations and energy deliver and field operations coordinator for Kentucky Utilities.
After appointing Thomas last month, Bevin said he was “thrilled” Thomas was joining the Transportation Cabinet. The governor went on to say Thomas’ “extensive private sector experience in providing statewide services and managing large budgets will be extremely beneficial for the Transportation Cabinet.”
