Complementing its growing line of compact excavators, Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has introduced two new compact excavators designed for tight, congested, or busy jobsites. The Volvo EC35C is now available, and the ECR48C is planned for early 2008 to the North America construction industry.
The Volvo EC35C compact excavator features a conventional excavator design for exceptional stability with minimal superstructure swing. The Volvo ECR48C has a short radius superstructure that turns inside the width of its tracks. The Volvo ECR48C can also be equipped with an optional counterweight to maximize use of longer arms or heavy attachments. Both machines are powered by new-generation Volvo diesel engines for dependable performance, fuel efficiency, low emissions, low noise, and excellent serviceability.
The Volvo EC35C and Volvo ECR48C both feature Volvo”s industry-leading cab for less operator fatigue and more production. Each cab offers exceptional leg and foot room. Optional air conditioning with heater is also available for year-round comfort and productivity in hot, humid, or cold climates. Service accessibility has been enhanced through an easy-open, side-position engine hood and service points have been placed together for fast daily maintenance.
The Volvo EC35C and Volvo ECR48C have been positioned at a high level in the evolution of compact excavators to meet the increased performance, comfort, efficiency, and safety demands of today”s jobsites.
Other key features of the Volvo EC35C and Volvo ECR48C
High performance
Simultaneous control of swing and boom offset movement enables faster, more precise performance. Blade float allows for quick and easy backfilling, leveling and finish work. The joystick control lever is equipped with an electronically proportional roller, allowing the operator to accurately adjust hydraulic flow as needed to the attachments. The automatic two-speed travel system engages at high speeds, automatically shifting gears from high to low according to the travel load. A Volvo-patented mono-pump hydraulic system efficiently uses one system for all hydraulics, delivering precise control and ideal power. Available options include a hydraulic angle backfill blade, a hydraulic thumb, and a second double-acting attachment circuit operated through fingertip control on the joystick.
Quality and reliability
In the manner of it”s Volvo counterparts, the Volvo EC35C has a cast steel X-frame undercarriage for sturdy operation and improved load distribution.
Operating efficiency
Both models are equipped with a standard auto-idling system that lowers engine speed to idle if the operator does not use the controls for five (5) seconds. This delivers lower fuel consumption, less on-site noise and long engine life. The Volvo ECR48C has a bucket interface that permits using buckeets coompatible with other Volvo 5-ton machines.
Operator comfort
Each machine has a sliding side window, an opening lower front window and a gas strut-assisted front windshield that opens wide and secures overhead. A multi-adjustable high-back seat provides proper head, neck and back support. The seat and console joysticks are mounted on the same suspension for smooth operation on rough terrain. Isolation-mounted cabs reduce vibration.
Safety features
The cabs and canopies of the new Volvo excavators have standard ROPS, FOPS, TOPS safety structures for their working environments. Visibility around the machines is paranomic due to expansive glass, narrow cab pillars and a compact rear design.
Serviceability
Easy-access covers on both machines give unobstructed access to routine service points. The instrumental panel provides operators with at-a-glance monitoring of all key machine functions.
