The funding, part of ODOT’s Transportation Alternative Program, will go toward community projects for non-motorized transportation and recreational facilities, including the creation of bicycle and pedestrian paths and safe routes for non-drivers, as well as restoration projects of historic transportation facilities like Ohio’s covered bridges.
Among the projects to be funded with the $10.5 million are:

$297,600 to construct a multi-use path connecting school campuses to the YMCA in Pickaway County

$799,185 for a safe pedestrian route connecting Kent State’s east and west campuses to businesses in the city of East Liverpool

$285,792 for the rehabilitation of the Mull Covered Bridge in Sandusky County
To be selected for funding, each project had to demonstrate a clear public benefit and improve alternative modes of transportation. ODOT worked with organizations in local communities to identify projescts that needed additional funding.
