Pettibone’s Traverse T1258X telehandler.Pettibone has expanded its lineup of traversing boom carriage telehandlers with a 12,000-pound capacity model.
The new Traverse T1258X is powered by a 117-horsepower Cummins QSF Tier 4 Final Diesel engine and has a specified lift height of 58 feet, 6 inches. Maximum forward reach is 47 feet, 10 inches. Pettibone says this machine is the farthest-reaching in its lineup.
Pettibone says its Traverse machines are the “only new telehandler product line…that can move loads by traveling horizontally.” As you can see in the video below of the smaller T944X model, Traverse telehandlers allow operators to move a load closer to the landing area while keeping the machine stationary. The machines’ boom slides atop a track that runs nearly the length of the machine and can be moved forward and backward by up to 70 inches.

This feature allows the machine’s landing height to be identical to its lift height. “By contrast, traditional fixed boom pivots typically have a true landing height that is several feet less than the promoted lift height, as users must account for withdrawing the forks out of the load with enough rearward travel for the fork tips to clear the landing zone,” the company says.
The new T1258X is also part of Pettibone’s gen-X Series of machines, which feature user-friendly controls and improved visibility. It is built for use on rough terrain and offers full-time four-wheel-drive with limited-slip front axle differential. Turn radius is 14 feet, 4 inches and a Dana VDT12000 Powershift transmission offers three speeds, forward and reverse.
Inside the cab, operators will find a seat, pedal, joystick and steering wheel with an analog/LCD gauge cluster standard. A 7-inch digital display is an available option as is a backup camera. The cab also features climate control, flat bolt-in glass, a split door design, openable rear window, USB plug and lockable storage beneath the seat.
Operators will also appreciate cylinder cushioning which dampens end of strokes when both extending and retracting. Pettibone says this both avoids the wear and tear of jarring stops while also preventing load spillage.
