The reason for the recall is GM’s discovery that during a rear-end collision, the reclining seat backs could move more than the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration allows, according to a report from Reuters.
GM says the affected seats don’t provide as much protection to passengers as they were designed. Thankfully, the automaker hasn’t received reports of any accidents or injures related to the defect.
Owners of the 2014 Silverado and Sierra can have their seats inspected and repaired at GM dealerships at no cost.
GM said of the 21,721 pickup trucks recalled, 18,972 are in the United States and 2,575 are in Canada, while only 103 are in Mexico and 71 are located outside North America.
