Screen shot.After a three-day weather delay, what was left of the eastern span of New York’s old Tappan Zee Bridge came crashing down into the Hudson River at 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019, ABC 7 NY reports. The detonation, which was done by Tappan Zee Constructors, went smoothly, with the explosion taking out the vertical members supporting the structure.
To ensure safety, the river was closed to all recreational vessels, and the Piermont Pier gates were closed until the all clear was sounded that they were safe to reopen.
The View on the Hudson, a catering hall, offered a breakfast special to those people who wanted to watch the implosion.
“It’s one of those once in a lifetime things,” said the hall’s Vincent Incorvaia, according to the news agency. “People are calling up, and they seem excited, pulling their kids out of school.”
