Agility and precision from a mining truck? That’s exactly what Caterpillar put to the test in its latest installment of Cat Trials.
In the video, a 794 AC autonomous mining truck equipped with Cat Mine star and a 299 D3 semi-autonomous compact track loader navigate an obstacle course alongside four-time FIFA World Cup participant DaMarcus Beasley.
With no operators in sight, the semi-autonomous and autonomous machines maneuver the site filled with tables of glassware and fields of flags.
The inspiration came from Cat Trial 3: China Shop, where Ryan Neal, market professional for large excavators, navigated a 301.7 mini excavator through a China shop filled with $40,000 worth of glassware – much of it on loan.
For Cat Trial 12: No Hands, the manufacturer wanted to show that its big machines could be just as precise.
Trucks equipped with Cat MineStar Command set a new record in 2021, moving more than 1 billion tons of material autonomously in less than a year. Cat mining trucks capable of fully autonomous operation include the 789D, 793D, 793F, 797F and 794 AC with electric drive. Autonomous trucks equipped with Command for hauling are currently operating at 18 mine sites by 10 companies across three continents.
