The world-record-breaking JCB Fastrac with its driver Guy Martin.The JCB Fastrac is now the world’s fastest tractor after the machine bested the previous record holder by nearly 20 mph.
The brain child of JCB Chairman Anthony Bamford, the record-breaking Fastrac reached a top speed of 103.6 mph at Elvington Airfield near York, England. The previous record was 87.27 mph, set by the Trac-tor, a modified tractor created by the crew from the TV show “Top Gear”.
JCB says its engineers have been working on the Fastrac as a secret project for the last few months. The record-breaking Fastrac is equipped with a 7.2-liter, 6-cylinder JCB DieselMax engine. The machine delivers 1,000 horsepower and about 1,800 lb-ft of torque.
JCB also got an assist from Williams Advanced Engineering which provided enhanced aerodynamics for the tractor’s exterior design.
The world record was set 28 years to the day since the first Fastrac tractor rolled off the assembly line, the company says.
“We’ve long harbored a dream to attempt a speed record with the Fastrac and the whole team has worked tirelessly to achieve this amazing result,” Bamford says. “I’m extremely proud of what they have achieved in such a short space of time.
“It is British engineering at its best and it really does highlight the skills and innovation we have in our engineering team. They have done a truly fantastic job.’’
