crime sceneIf renting a truck to commit a crime isn’t dumb enough, two California men were arrested earlier this month after their being caught red-handed by a tow truck driver.

According to a report from the Press-Enterprise, the two men rented a U-Haul truck and drove onto a California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) jobsite at the Interstate 15/I-215 freeway interchange on the morning of November 3. The men then loaded up $10,000 worth of unnamed equipment before heading on their way. A gate was in place to protect the equipment but it was left unlocked.

However, while driving along later that day, the thieves got a flat tire and—for some reason—thought it would be a good idea to call a tow truck. when the tow truck driver saw what the men were carrying, he thought it suspicious and called the cops.

The men were arrested and released the next day on $50,000 bail.
