U.S. tractor, combine sales remain strong

U.S. tractor and combine sales remain strong, led by a torrid sales pace of tractors in the under-40HP segment, according to the latest Flash Report from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.

Sales of 2WD tractors in the under-40HP segment were more than 96 percent higher than March of 2020, and year to date are up 64 percent over a year ago. Sales in the other 2WD segments are also strong, with the 40HP to under-100HP segment up 58 percent over March of 2020 and up 35 percent over year-ago sales, and 100+ tractor sales up 33 percent over March of 2020 and up 18 percent over 2020 sales to date.

Sales of 4WD tractors were up 2.5 percent over March 2020 and are up 10 percent year-to-date compared to 2020. Combine sales saw strength as well, up more than 6 percent over March 2020 sales and up 10 percent over year-to-date sales.

Total farm tractor sales are up more than 50 percent over year-to-date sales from last year. And 2020 sales eclipsed the five-year average from April 2020 through the end of the year.
