Caterpillar dealer Foley Equipment, based in Kansas, is going solar with a new microgrid that could save $23,000 in energy costs in its first year alone, the dealership says.

Foley Power Solutions, which is a division of Foley Equipment, recently completed a solar microgrid on the roof of the company’s Kansas City facility. Foley Equipment provides solar, microgrid and energy storage systems to customers throughout Kansas and northwest Missouri.

Caterpillar offers a full range of Cat Microgrid systems from 10 kW to 100 MW. And CAT says its BDP module offers state-of-the-art energy conversion and storage technologies.

The new 1,500 solar panel microgrid at Foley will create 172kW of renewable energy and anticipated savings of $1.25 million over 25 years, the company says. Installed by Cromwell Solar atop Foley Equipment’s facility at 5701 E 87th Street, the microgrid will provide about a third of the building’s power.

The project represents the largest on-site solar installation for a commercial business in Kansas City, Missouri, the dealership says.

“We are pleased to use solar to help power our facility.” says Foley Equipment CEO Ann Konecny. “It is not only renewable but makes great financial sense.”

The Cat Microgrid technology suite is designed to reduce fuel expenses, lower utility bills and decrease emissions while increasing energy efficiency in even the most challenging environments, the dealership says.

“Our knowledge of generator sets and distributed power combined with the strength of the Cat dealer network provides customers with a reliable, long-term business partner,” says James Kerschinske, Power Solutions Sales Manager. “Together with Cat Microgrid technologies, Foley delivers an innovative, financially viable solution to incorporate sustainable energy sources, like solar and energy storage battery systems, into traditional power generation offerings.”
