Case launches C-Series graders with all-new 836, 856 models

Case Construction Equipment has launched the first models in its new C-Series motor grader lineup, saying the all-new machines are easier to operate and offer a wide range of weights and horsepower ratings.

The new 836C and 856C will come in standard and All Wheel Drive configurations. Here’s a brief spec breakdown of the new models:

  • 836C: (138-156 hp; Operating weight: 24,466-pounds)
  • 836C AWD: (138-156 hp; Operating weight: 27,128-pounds)
  • 856C: (173-190 hp; Operating weight: 33,966-pounds)
  • 856C AWD: (173-190 hp; Operating weight: 34,848-pounds)

The Tier 4 Final engine in these machines is paired with an Ergopower transmission and torque converter that Case says provides “smooth automatic shifting.”

The graders also feature a 100 percent automatic differential lock combined with automatic no-spin power splitting. This “instantly transfers torque from a slipping tire to one with more traction,” Case says, “without any operator intervention.”

The AWD models feature a Creep Mode for finish grading and application with light tolerances.


New design and hydraulics


Case has also implemented a new design with the 836C and 856C. The company says the machines feature an “exclusive” A-frame drawbar with “superior stability due to its heavy-duty boxed frame design.”

The graders feature a steel moldboard and a new moldboard mount and slide system with fewer grease points. Case says “the new moldboard is designed to pitch, tilt and move laterally, and can be expanded with available horizontal and bilateral extensions which further expand material retention for super fine grading applications.”

Case calls its load-sensing hydraulic circuits “one of the most intelligent” on the market. The system delivers only as much hydraulic pressure as is necessitated by the current load the machine is under while control valves “provide pressure compensation, allowing the moldboard to be lifted or lowered in parallel, when both are at full stroke, preventing unintended slope loss due to hydraulic flow/pressure differences from side to side.”

Should the operator need full hydraulic output, a high-floor floor switch provides it at any time during operation.

Hydraulic controls are direct-mounted and increase lever rigidity and reduce play in the system. Case says these control and give “the operator positive feedback and better control from the hydraulic system during precision applications,” Case says.


Cab details, machine control and other options


Inside the cab, operators will find floor-to-ceiling windows for high visibility to the moldboard. A heated air-ride seat is standard while a rear-view camera with a 7-inch display, advanced lighting package, heavy-duty tires, a dozer front blade, rear ripper and an automatic lubrication system are available options.
