Manitowoc to produce crawler cranes in Europe
Manitowoc recently announced plans to set up production for crawler cranes in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. The type of crane produced at the plant will be a new model, the 1500, which will be a 250-ton capacity class similar to the U.S.-built model 999. The 1500 crane will be unveiled at the Bauma exhibition in Germany next year.
Peterbilt reaches labor agreement
Peterbilt motors announced last week the company has reached an agreement with the United Auto Workers on a new five-year labor contract for its Nashville facility. Union members voted June 22 to accept the company’s “final offer” and return to work on July 1, ending a 10-month lockout. According to Peterbilt, about 250 of the 750 employees that were “locked out” in September will return to work this week.
Reineke acquires PressureGuard
Reineke recently acquired the PressureGuard tire inflation system product line from Innovative Transportation Products. In order to boost production, Reineke has moved PressureGuard production to its Ashland, Ohio, manufacturing facility.

Inventor of modern hydraulic crane dies
John Landis Grove, co-founder of Grove Manufacturing and JLG Industries, died at his Greencastle, Pa., home at the age of 82 on June 16. During his career, Grove, along with his brother Dwight, co-founded Grove Manufacturing. It was during his time as Grove executive vice president and general manager that he developed the modern hydraulic crane. In 1993, he was inducted into the Construction Equipment Hall of Fame.
Astoria announces sales team member
Astoria Industries announced June 27 the addition of Dave Hatfield to its sales team. As part of his position, Hatfield will be responsible for covering sales in the Northern U.S. region.
