Yearly construction fuel consumption up 5.2 percent

Updated Nov 29, 2012

We Xchart
and IHS have released the results of the WEX Construction Fuel Consumption Index (FCI), which indicated a 5.2-percent increase year-over-year in October.

The WEX Construction FCI measures national fuel consumption statistics for the construction industry to provide an indication of construction activity in the United States.

WEX tested the indicators at monthly, quarterly, and annual frequencies. The greatest insights were produced from the year-over-year percent change of the monthly data. For October 2012, the WEX Construction FCI showed fuel consumption by United States construction companies increased 4.1 percent from the previous month and increased 5.2 percent since October 2011.

The FCI uses data from WEX’s more than 180,000 fuel and vehicle maintenance locations to identify emerging trends within the construction industry and the national economy.
