Caltrain and making sure high-speed works for the Peninsula,” said Tissier in a written press statement. “The prosperity of the Peninsula has always gone hand in hand with modern transportation, whether it was the original railway in the 19th century, construction of the U.S. 101 and I-280 freeways in the 20th century or the continuing growth of San Francisco International Airport. Rein Worth, who was appointed to MTC in early 2007 by her colleagues on the city councils in Contra Costa County, has been chairing the Commission’s Operations Committee while also serving on three other standing committees.

The Commission also welcomed several new members who recently began four-year terms. These include San Jose City Councilmember Sam Liccardo, who replaces former Sunnyvale city Councilmember Dean J. Chu as the representative of the cities of Santa Clara County; and South San Francisco Mayor Kevin Mullin, who replaces former San Mateo City Councilmember Sue Lempert as the representative of the cities of San Mateo County. Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese, who previously represented the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) on the Commission, retains a seat as the new representative from Santa Clara County, replacing Supervisor Ken Yeager.

ABAG named Union City Mayor and ABAG President Mark Green as its new MTC representative. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has not yet appointed an MTC representative to replace former Supervisor Chris Daly, whose term ended in December 2010.

MTC is the transportation planning, coordinating and financing agency for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area.
