The Asphalt Institute is offering two 90-minute webinars to help technicians and engineers advance their knowledge and earn professional development hours.

The first webinar, Basics of Asphalt Mix Design, will be November 21 at noon (EST). It is designed for engineers and technicians who are new to the profession and are interested in learning the basic steps and tests used in an asphalt mix design. Sales and marketing students would also benefit by getting an overview of the asphalt mix design process, according to the institute.

“This webinar provides the student with a basic overview of the purpose, tests and analyses needed to conduct an asphalt mix design,” the institute says. “While not a prerequisite for attending an Asphalt Institute Mix Design Technology course, the webinar can provide a base level of understanding that may benefit students wishing to attend a more detailed lab-based mix design course.”

The other webinar, Asphalt Mix Design with RAP, will be November 28 at noon (EST). The webinar on reclaimed asphalt pavement is designed for engineers and technicians familiar with asphalt mix design and want to learn about adding RAP to the process, according to the institute.

“This webinar provides the student with a detailed overview of the process for conducting an asphalt mix design using RAP,” the institute says. “Mix design considerations include virgin asphalt binder grade selection, testing of RAP materials, laboratory handling, and analysis procedures needed to conduct a successful asphalt mix design using RAP.”

The webinars cost $85 each and will be taught by Mike Anderson, the institute’s director of research & laboratory services. Group discounts are available.
