Missouri DOT seeks public input on identifying historical significance of bridges

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is seeking the public’s help in identifying bridges across the state that are “associated with historical events or people of importance to a community” to determine the impact of the removal or update to bridges.

This effort is part of the agency’s work to create a “programmatic agreement” for work on common concrete and steel bridges built before 1945 to streamline a review process required by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.

This agreement, MoDOT says, will review more than 700 of these bridges and 850 culverts. The department will develop “preservation options and mitigation measures” for any bridge eligible for National Register status that may be removed in the future.
