According to a report by the Florida Times-Union, Herhandez was cutting off a piece of metal when the safety lock on the doors failed. Nearby workers freed him from the doors before the Waycross Fire Department and Ware County EMS arrived on the scene.
Hernandez had been working at the site under a false identity, and was previously referred to as Javier Avolos in a report by the Waycross Journal-Herald. That report also stated he was working on the silo about 20 feet above the ground at the time.
Waycross Police Chief Tony Tanner said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.
