The American Road & Transportation Builder’s Association, through its Transportation Investment Advocacy Center (TIAC), reports that 26 state legislatures have a total of 90 introduced measures between them that would offer transportation project funding.
ARTBA’s Chief Economist Dr. Alison Premo Black said that state and local funding makes up slightly less than half of all “highway and bridge capital outlays,” with the federal government providing close to 52 percent of capital improvements.
“Governors and state legislators recognize the negative impacts of deteriorating road and bridge conditions on the local economy, safety and mobility, and are taking action to fix the problem.” Black said. “At the federal level, Congress should be taking a similar approach to finding a permanent solution for the Highway Trust Fund before highway and transit program funding expires at the end of May.”
Citing Iowa’s recent gas tax approval, the association provided a list of categories of legislation on state dockets.
