The transportation sector maintained 4,493,600 jobs in October, the same number that were available in September, according to statistics released Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
In comparison, overall employment in the U.S. increased by 204,000 jobs in October while the unemployment rate increased to 7.3 percent.
The warehousing and storage sector of transportation experienced the highest number of gains, growing from 698,600 jobs in September to 700,200 jobs in October — an increase of 1,600 jobs.
Transit and ground passenger transportation, as well as the support activities sector, saw the highest number of losses, each losing 1,700 jobs. Transit and ground passenger dropped from 474,000 jobs in September to 472,300 jobs in October, while support activities fell from 591,400 in September to 589,700 in October.
