Worker crushed, killed while servicing bulldozer in Florida

A worker for a Florida construction company was killed late last month while performing maintenance on a bulldozer.

According to a report from the NBC 2, 21-year-old Joshua Caleb Alain was killed Oct. 27 when the dozer fell on top of him at EHC Inc. in North Naples. Police say Alain was working beneath the dozer, which was on a jack, near the front end when the machine shifted and fell.

The tread of the machine landed atop Alain’s torso, the station reports. Firefighters responding to the scene found him unconscious and performed chest compressions before rushing him to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

NBC reports Alain was relatively new at EHC. He leaves behind a wife and a newborn daughter.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident. It remains unknown just what caused the dozer to collapse.

“We at EHC are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our co-worker Joshua Caleb Alain. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in this most heartbreaking time. We would ask that all hold his family in your hearts and prayers,” the company said in a statement. “We are working with the authorities to determine the cause of the accident and how to best ensure the continued safety of our employees. We will provide additional comments when the time is appropriate.”
