A DC Solar Solutions mobile generator.The U.S. Department of Transportation has partnered with mobile solar technology firm DC Solar Solutions for the agency’s Smart City Challenge. The company will provide $1.5 million worth of electric vehicle chargers and mobile solar generators to the winning city.
The Smart City Challenge is designed to convert one city in to the first in the national to fully integrate technologies, such as smart sensor and connected vehicles, into their transportation system. Seven cities have been named finalists—Portland, Kansas City, Columbus, San Francisco, Denver, Austin and Pittsburgh—and the winning city will be announced this month.
EV charging station.DC Solar Solutions also plans to help all of the finalist cities develop strategies for electric vehicle charging infrastructure and ways to implement its mobile solar technology into other aspects of their infrastructure.

Other company partners for the Smart City Challenge include Paul G. Allen’s Vulcan Inc., Amazon Web Services, Mobileye, Autodesk, Alphabet’s Sidewalk Labs, NXP and AT&T.
