General Motors plans to end production of its heavy-duty Chevy Silverado chassis cab trucks.

An agreement between GM and International Motors to produce the 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD ends September 30. International announced recently it is selling the plant in Springfield, Ohio, where the trucks are made, to armored and commercial vehicle manufacturer Roshel.

The Chevy Silverado HDs have been produced under a partnership that started in 2015 with Navistar, which changed its name to International Motors in 2024. Under the agreement, GM provides the cab, commercial components and diesel engines, while International provides the rolling chassis configurations and manufacturing. The deal also produced the International CV Series, which is set to end, as well, according to media reports.

The first of the trucks hit the market in 2018.

2026 Silverado HDs

The 2026 Silverado HDs are still available. They come in regular cab and crew cab versions, as well as two-wheel and four-wheel drive. The chassis can be upfitted for a business’ specific use, including dump bed or utility body.

The trucks run on a Duramax 6.6-literturbodiesel V8 paired with an Allison transmission. The engines deliver 350 horsepower and 750 pound-feet of torque.

An available power take-off enables auxiliary power from either side of the transmission.

Other features on the trucks include:

  • Forward-tilting hood with up to 50-degree wheel cut for maneuvering tight jobsites and easier maintenance.
  • Battery box located below the driver side of the cab with an available auxiliary jump-start stud.
  • Diesel exhaust fluid fill designed for easy refills and to prevent accidental mix-up with fuel.
  • Tuned shocks and cab mounts for increased ride comfort.
  • Triple-sealed doors to lessen outside noise.
